Lecture on COPD, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Herbal Treatments for COPD & Chronic Bronchitis
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and chronic bronchitis are both characterized by shortness of breath, too much production of sputum and chronic cough. Ayurveda describes them as Prananvaha srotas vyadhi. In these diseases ‘Prana- the life force’ is affected, that is why Ayurveda gives prime importance to them.
Understanding the body mechanism how, where and why excess sputum is made, helps to understand how to lower it. Removal and absorption of excess fluids, opening blockages in the air passage and improving strength of lungs all can be done with the help of Ayurveda and that ultimately helps to breathe better. Ayurveda explains causative factors for these diseases beyond smoking and also provides preventive as well as curative guidelines.
Ayurvedic management includes good balance between detox and calming treatments. Diet, lifestyle tips, breathing exercises, Yogasana, tonics for respiratory system and rejuvenation herbs, all together increase the quality of life for patients. In this workshop we will try to understand these chronic conditions from the Ayurvedic point of view and discuss the effective management plans for them.
In this workshop Dr. Rao will share references from classical texts along with her own experiences in treating various chronic conditions of respiratory system with the help of classical Ayurveda.
Please note that basic understanding of Ayurveda is required as the Ayurveda terminology and clinical terms will be used in the discussion.
